Nina Shen Rastogi is a freelance writer and editor who lives in Brooklyn but was forged in the Bay Area. She's a regular contributor to both Slate and its new sister site, DoubleX.
Before turning to journalism, she spent several years developing academic material in literature, drama, and philosophy for Barnes & Noble Publishing. She holds a BA in English, magna cum laude, from Yale and an MA in Shakespearean Studies, with distinction, from King's College London and the Globe Theatre. (Ask her about her dissertation on conceptual binary systems in Measure for Measure.) She was recently a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, where she focused on cultural reporting and criticism.
