Nina Shen Rastogi writes a lot these days about culture (high, low, and pop), girls, and race. In the past she wrote a lot about the environment. 

Before turning to journalism, she spent several years developing academic material in literature, drama, and philosophy for Barnes & Noble Publishing. She holds a BA in English, magna cum laude, from Yale and an MA in Shakespearean Studies, with distinction, from King's College London and the Globe Theatre. (Go ahead. Ask her about her dissertation on conceptual binary systems in Measure for Measure.) She was recently a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow at NYU's Arthur L.
